Biography

Cardiovascular Nursing in a unit specializing in Open Heart Surgery.
12 years of free lance artisan style jewelry designing in every medium imaginable and still growing. I hope to, one day, exclusively design jewelry, Which translates into, "One day I hope to work only 8-10 hours per day instead of 16-20!
six years of lampworking art glass
eight years of fine bead work
two years of PMC and Polymer Clay work
twelve years of general jewelry design in mixed media
I have always worked alone. No secretary, no helpers, no sweat shop.
I've never mass produced anything. Designs are almost exclusively one of a kind.

Statements

Color, texture, light, and mechanical behaviours. It's what I am about.
People often ask me, among my designing peers, "Mona, the last piece you made was wonderful. Why do you keep moving to new mediums when the one you were working in was so beautiful?"
My comment on this is simple. I live to create. Many ideas continuously wafting through my heart and soul , longing to express themselves through my hands. Only the strongest ones make it. The designs that cry, plead, beg, and/or demand to be made until I submit to them. If I limit the mediums that I work in, those ideas can never find their way into reality. I embrace every medium. I study, experiment, and grow with the intention that as many of those strong and beautiful designs may be given birth in whatever medium they desire, for as long as I live. Once many years ago my life was in trouble. I had a young son, no money, and my back against the wall. I had never given jewelry design even a passing thought. I prayed a deep and soulful prayer for help. Within 1 hour of that prayer I was making jewelry. God literally layed a gift upon me more immense and generous than I could or can comprehend. I will never turn my back on that gift. I remain humble, grateful, and still stand in amazement by the generosity of love and care that God has sustained me with. I feel a responsiblity to protect and nurture that gift, to grow and expand the possiblities of what can be, to entertain and love the world through my work, and to give hope to those who are having trouble finding any.
