The 9th Day: A legacy of Rage

By LG Olson | 2008

Boone glared down at her and grinned evilly as he moved slowly to her, pulling the cell phone from his pocket; he dialed a number.
Tessa turned and gazed up in horror, fighting to get up on her frozen legs and shot out of the bathroom; shoving him aside as she ran into the kitchen and grabbed the keys from the table, heading for the garage. She slammed through the door almost falling down the steps. Her heart pounding so hard it felt as if it would burst from her chest.
Running to the first truck and tried to shove the key into the lock, it didn’t fit. She shook and ran around the front of the truck, knocking boxes out of the way. Running to the next truck trying to unlock it, she cried out as it wouldn’t fit. Setting the car alarm off. She jumped back and cried out, panicking. She ran to the next car, shoving the boxes out of the way, knocking them over and stumbling through them; crying hysterically. Dropping the keys among them and she frantically searched for them; pulling boxes apart. She froze in horror as she stared into a box. “Oh my God. No,” she whimpered.
“What’s wrong Tessa? Didn‘t know you were a corpse.”
She jumped in her skin and cautiously got up; turning to face the door. Boone smiled and closed the cell phone. Tessa choked hard as she stared at him.
“Nothing, I’m. I’m …” she choked as she glanced around herself almost fainting
as she struggled to stay on her feet.
Boone slowly walked through the mess towards her. “I’m? I’m? I’m? What?” he mocked her.
She ran a trembling hand down her cheek as she gazed at the box; her mind in shock dazed meltdown.
“Did you find something Precious?” He asked with a sly smile as he came to her.
She shook her head no, as sweat drenched her pale face; she slowly backed up. “What’s wrong sweetheart? You look like you saw a ghost,” he said softly as he slowly reached up to touch her face.
Her entire body jumped as the memory of a black leather glove flashed before her eyes.
"Come to me Tessa," the voice echoed in her brain.
Boone smiled and she gasped as Carvers face flashed in his. Tears rolled down her cheeks, she knew.
Boone bent over into the box and pulled out a black worn hockey mask and smiled warmly as he gazed at it; lovingly. Tessa gazed at it and trembled as she watched him slid it on his face and slowly glared up at her face. Her chest heaved hard, frozen in place as he stood there and stared at her.
He slowly cocked his head to the side. “I have missed you so much,” he said so evilly she felt her soul drain from her body.
He slowly leaned over and shoved boxes aside, he reached down and slowly rose his hand, gripping a dirty blood stained baseball bat.
“It’s your day,” he said coldly just before he took a powerful swung at her.
Tessa screamed and ducked the blow as it hissed past her head; hitting the pavement hard. “Your last day,” he growled and rose the bat above his head and slammed it down; just missing her.
He chuckled as she fought her way through the boxes to her feet. “Oops, I missed,” he said with a chuckle. “Lets try this again. Wanna play a game?”
Tess ran frantically around the cars and trucks to the door that lead outside. She screamed pitifully as she tugged on the knob, it wouldn’t open. He carefully leaned on the end of the baseball bat as he watched her, mildly entertained.
“Where you going sweetheart?” He asked, his eyes lit behind the mask.
Tess turned around carefully and watched his every move. He swung the bat up onto his shoulder and held it with both hands, squeezing the handle so tight as he twisted in his palms. He glared at her with a sly smile as her body shook uncontrolled.
“I remember you,” she choked out nervously.
He chuckled and shook his head. “It’s about time you stupid bitch,” he growled.

Tess carefully glanced to the door that lead to the living room and judged the distance between it and Boone. She gazed down at the floor and closed her eyes a second, trying to compose herself. Tess looked up at the cars, then quickly back to Boone.
“What are doing baby? Waiting for me to make a mistake,” he asked. “I don’t make mistakes,” he announced coldly.
Tess slowly moved to the back of the truck. “Then what am I, Boone?” She asked softly as she fought the tears that were building.
He smiled as his eyes watched her every move. “Dead,” he said calmly.
Tess swallowed and lifted her chin in defiance. “I’m not ready to die, Boone,” she replied. “You fucked up the last two times. What makes you think I’ll die this time,” she smarted back coldly.
He turned as his eyes followed her, swinging the bat down and caught it in his hand with a smack; Tess jumped in her skin.
“Because this time I have something of yours, Tessa,” he growled. Tess looked at him distraught and stopped moving.
“Don’t you dare use her? She has nothing to do with this,” She said softly as Boone cocked his head to the side and gazed at her.
“Would I do that, Tessa?” He said almost chuckling.
Tess gazed at him lost as he slowly moved towards her, he stepped over the boxes and got up to the front of the truck.
“You know what I’m capable of,” he announced as his hands ground on the handle of the base bat to make her squirm.
“Come on. Don’t you remember your last final moments before we beat you to fucking death, well almost,” he said with a sigh, a bit disappointed.
He stepped forward and Tess shot off for the living room door, Boone jumped and ran after her. Tess slammed through the door and almost fell in; turning quickly, she slammed it closed and locked it. She leaned her back against it panting hard. Boone hit the door so hard it almost sent her flying. Tess cried out and ran for the front door and grabbed the knob and turning it as the sound of trucks roaring up the drive made her freeze. She froze solid and backed away from the door.

It was the sound of keys hitting the glass table that cut through her. Her eyes went wide as she slowly turned around and stared back into the living room. The flash of a shadow made her jump and back up into a corner. To terrified to move, she slowly glanced around for any weapon close enough for her to grab. Her face became riddled with confusion and pain.
“No Halo, put that down,” Boone said softly.
Tessa shook as she stepped out of the corner and slowly through entry way. She stopped and carefully entered the living room. She gazed at the couch and tears ran down her face. Halo waddled around the coffee table. Boone sat there smiling at her, then he gazed up at Tess and the smile faded to a cold glare of hatred. He looked back at the baby and put out his arms to the child as she toddled over to him and he picked her up; kissing her face and smiling. Tess gasped as the baby turned and gazed at her. Tess choked hard as Boone stood up, holding the child so lovingly it terrified her. He rubbed her back, while she chewed on his shirt, her beautiful head lay gentally against his shoulder.
“Leaving with out saying goodbye to your daughter.”
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she gazed at Halo. “Give me my Daughter.”
He chuckled and rocked her slowly. “Mommy can be such a bitch.”
“She’s not your child Boone. She is my child, give her to me.” she spouted angrily as Boone walked up to her, glaring down at her. “How dare you use Halo against me,” she glared back with tear filled eyes.
“I can do what ever I fucken want, you stupid bitch.”
Tears slowly fell from her eyes as she gazed at Halo, “give me my baby.”
Boone grinned as he turned and walked away, placing Halo in a playpen with her bottle.
He turned around and glared at her. “I’m going to tell you how it is, Tessa. So you listen up, and don’t make me repeat this again. In this house you are nothing but a fucking dead body waiting to be buried.”
His face grew angrier as he approached her, she trembled violently; swallowing hard as she broke from his gaze, looking down. She closed her eyes tightly as he stopped in front her. The muscles in his neck bulging as his anger built.
“Please Boone,” she whimpered as he struck out; she hit the floor with a horrific cry.
Her face stung and burned as she cradled her cheek; crying.
“Please what? You mouthy little bitch!”
She shook as the marble on the floor chilled her. Slowly she pushed herself up on her elbows. She pushed her hair aside and waited for her sight to clear. Her head pounding hard inside her skull.
He leaned down and grabbed her collar; pulling her shaking body to her feet. Tears rolled down her cheeks. Boone slid his arms around her and pulled her tightly to his body. He smiled as his lips ran down her neck.
"No fight Tessa," he whispered as she just stood there and cried. "Thought you were just going to walk away from us huh?"
"She’s not your child,," she replied pitifully.
"But she is my baby Tessa. Not yours. You need to remember who raised her," he kissed her neck softly.
"I am her mother," she snapped back as he chuckled in her ear.
"Her dead mother," he replied as his hands prodded her skin hard.
"I'm not dead," Tess's voice trembled between anger and fear.
Boone chuckled and tightened his grip around her waist, the other hand sliding around her throat. Tess closed her eyes as his fingers laced around it.
"You will be," he cooed softly as his breath warmed her ear.
Boone's hand tightened around her throat as he swung her around hard, shoving her to the wall. Tess cried out as she hit the hard callous surface. He stared at her as she writhed under his grip. Her frail hands grabbing at his wrist, trying to break his grip. He only tightened it, yanked her forward and slammed her back agan with chuckled.
"Sorry. Did that hurt Tessa?"
His cold dark eyes stared at her as she twisted in pain. She cried out as the pressure of his hand only pinned her tighter to the wall.
"Do I need to go over this with you agan?" He barked. "Maybe you forgot what kind of an asshole I can really be."
“Please don’t,” she cried out as he tightened his grip on her, pulling her face to his.
“You have no power here! Do you understand?” Tessa cried out as he jerked her body . “DO YOU!”
“Yes,” she choked out as he suddenly through her aside; hitting the floor hard.
She lay shaking as he approached her and squatted down beside her. “You are pathetic Tessa. Don’t you get tired of living? I would think death would be a refreshing release for you. Hell. Halo wouldn’t even know you existed.”
Tessa whimpered as she painfully sat up. “I’m still her mother.”
Boone chuckled and wiped his hand across his top lip. “Yeah. Not for long,” he quipped as he got up and walked away from her.
Nick walked through the door and froze. He glanced down to her then over to Boone. He went to her and pulled her up; holding her. “What the fuck did you do?” he barked at Boone.
“Put her in her place. By the way. She has her memory back. The bitch dies in two weeks.”
Tess screamed out in horror as Boone walked away into the kitchen. Nick held her as she writhed and cried hysterically in his arms. Terror running it’s course as he held her. He struggled to hold her straining body and her terror flooded out as Boone walked from the kitchen; pushing air bubbles up and out of a syringe. She gazed up and terror flooded though her.
