Keep it simple, but creative. Don't worry if the story begins to steer off in a direction you didn't see. If it does, then it's showing that you've done such a good job that it's able to breathe on it's own now. Just follow it.

I like doing the obvious. Surprising how hidden the obvious seems to be from most.

Techniques

I don't like rushing things...unless I have a deadline, of course. I like being able to walk-away and come back to stories. Not over long periods, but maybe just overnight so they have time to gel in my head.
