Odin's Runesong

Based on the poem from the Elder Edda. To sum it up, Odin sacrificed himself to himself by hanging for nine days and nights on the world tree Yggdrasil in order to gain the secret of the runes. This is my interpretation of that scene based on a resurection suspension.

Year:
2007
Size:
16.0"W x 26.0"H x 10.0"D
Materials:
polymer clay, aluminum wire armatures, cold porcelain leaves, acrylic paint, wooden base
Construction:
This is by far the best and most challenging sculpture I've created to date. Odin took well over 100 hours to create spread out over 9 months. Creating the armature for Odin that would allow him to appear to be hanging from the tree while still giving him plenty of internal support was really tricky.
