Life without Art isn't life at all.....!!

For me art is a necessity. I have a calling to do and try new things and mediums! My favorite subject is the female figure but from time to time I enjoy doing a landscape especially the Greek Isles as they offer the artist the best of form and light to work with. Wonderful plays of light and shadow there!! Still the female figure is my favorite subject in a lot of ways for the same reasons I like painting the Greek Isles, shape, light, and shadow. My favorite paint media is watercolor because I like the qualities of its texture and the softness I can create with it. I almost exclusively use this medium for my figurative works. For landscapes I prefer oils on large canvases. My other love and perhaps my favorite medium is Bronze Sculpture. I like to watch a thought in my head come to life as I work the clay. Many sculptors will tell you that when working in clay the figure in the clay often takes on a life of its own causing the sculptor to change what the were originally setting out to create. It's this quality of the piece coming to life that draws me most to this medium. -Roger
